I never got into Nine Inch Nails in the early days, I was took into my simplistic three-four piece punk rock (a la The Offspring, Green Day, Blink-182); but in recent years I came to listen to NIN a bit more in the form of ‘With Teeth’ that I thought was alright, but felt a bit incomplete. Then I came by ‘The Downward Spiral’ (thanks to the girlie) which was a bit more full on it’s self and I got more into the whole electro scene (having already heard some Electro-Punk like Epoxies, and Mindless Self Indulgence).

But now, thanks to the wonder of the internet, Trent Reznor has released his new album, ‘Ghosts I‘, on torrent.

This download does only include vol. I as Mr. Reznor is doing incremental releases.

Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV

Click on the image above if you want to download the whole lot now for a price ($5); I recommend it (yes, I paid).

This isn’t anything new; Radiohead did it with ‘In Rainbows‘ for a short time, but turned out it was a stunt set up by the record company. But Reznor has done a free album before with Saul Williams (as a featured artist) with his album ‘NiggyTardust‘, also a very good album; very much what you could concider being African-Punk as it looks at the history and oppression that is felt by Saul Williams.

Oh, I know. Two week and not frigging FNV, well sod you guys! Here!

Green Day - Basket Case

Green Day actually is a day you sit around, fo FA, and smoke pot… the main point is pot. But nowadays, these guys rock the political war ground and fight for Mother Gaia.

I personally don’t like that aspect of Punk where it goes and takes a dig and pop-politics, but before Green Day took this stance, the where about fun and rocking out. They became famous and where critized over the fact they weren’t punk due to their sudden popularity and more polished song styles that came with the album Dookie. This followed with their album Insominiac which took a shot at all those who said they weren’t punk and made the semi-rushed album and more grungy sound you here.

Basket Case really did make their carree though. Before American Idiot came on the scene, this is what they where known for, and it set them up for their lives. You go to their concert and BJ plays the opening cords and sings the opening lyrics, the crowed will go nuts!

Really. I do believe their prime was well before American Idiot, so their two albums I’ll recommend is Dookie and Nimrod.

A bit late this week and after a few beers, but least I remembered to do it. Well, I am in bed waiting to go in bed and really tired, and it’s officially Saturday, but fuck it!

The Presidents of The USA - Peaches

Possibly one of the most popular songs of its generation, The Presidents of The USA hit something with this single, from a band that The Blue Group try and be as random as.

These guys where one of the first to add really strange lyrics and song meanings to the mainstream of the mid-nineties alternative rock scene. Songs such as “Kitty”, “Lump” and the amazing “Candy” with imagery that makes you want to go out and grab it.

I remember listening to these guys loads when I was younger(that would be almost ten years ago now) and their music just being really awesome, just plain old rock, no mention of love for another woman, just complete randomness!

It has to be said, their self-titled album The Presidents of The United States of America is a must for any record collection containing any sort of rock guitar stuff or punk.

As I said I would, it’s Friday so that means Friday Noise Visual! And here’s today’s picking…

28 Days - Sand

One of my top bands who I love for there mix of rap and punk throughout this whole skater, surfer, snowboarder style they got going on.

Unfortunatly, the broke up earlier this year marking 10 years of music playing together. But I still bought all their albums, and seriously want to get a hold of their tees.

I think they are one of those bands who just wrote about anything for anyone. From drinking beers, playing gigs, skating, and even just haning out, to the death of their drummer, Scott Murray, in 2000 due to a hit and run. Noting on this death though, even their follow up album afterwards “Stealing Chairs” (name after something Scott used to do a lot) in 2002 used samples of drums he recorded before he died in songs about him after his death.

I always have something of theirs in the car or on one of my MP3 players as it just fits into what ever I do; even if it’s now at work developing sites, I can chill to them. I have placed a lot of my time in the last 2 years of school and college down to one of their tracks and I get that warm feeling.

If anybody wants to get into them, I suggest getting either “Upstyledown” or “Stealing Chairs” to start with and then just fall in love with them.

Kicking Diesel on Rolling Stone coverI just have to share this because I think he’s fucking awesome.

Anybody who sings the lyrics “Smoke another cigrette before I flick it in your eye”, has done a collaboration with Elton John and sings about being a Cock Rock star has got to be pure awesome.
