Pennywise have released their new album ‘Reason To Believe‘ for free via MySpace
All you need do is click on the banner above, and add those guys (”textango” I believe) as a friend, then you’ll be able to download the album via a link they give you.
I haven’t listen to the album yet, but Pennywise are normally cool to listen too. There is an odd thing though; the 15th track isn’t there. Now this is where the obvious marketing comes in.
Textango is a service that allows you to buy/download music buy paying for it through your phone. So, you find a code on their site and text it; you are charge how ever much for the album plus your text rate. Good service really as it does allow people who want to earn through their music to offer it out to people in an easy way (well, I haven’t tired it as it is an American based service only at the moment). So Pennywise are still earning something out of this, but it is also giving something to the bands who will listen to market their music; we all know studio time isn’t cheap, so to be able to find a quick way of selling the music to the masses is great.
These guys are awesome, if you haven’t already, check them out as they are awesome. Rather than go down the popular route of… what’s popular (*cough*emo/screamo/fake-hardcore*cough*), they went for the always good Pop Punk route that I feel will never go.
Oh, I know. Two week and not frigging FNV, well sod you guys! Here!
Green Day - Basket Case
Green Day actually is a day you sit around, fo FA, and smoke pot… the main point is pot. But nowadays, these guys rock the political war ground and fight for Mother Gaia.
I personally don’t like that aspect of Punk where it goes and takes a dig and pop-politics, but before Green Day took this stance, the where about fun and rocking out. They became famous and where critized over the fact they weren’t punk due to their sudden popularity and more polished song styles that came with the album Dookie. This followed with their album Insominiac which took a shot at all those who said they weren’t punk and made the semi-rushed album and more grungy sound you here.
Basket Case really did make their carree though. Before American Idiot came on the scene, this is what they where known for, and it set them up for their lives. You go to their concert and BJ plays the opening cords and sings the opening lyrics, the crowed will go nuts!
Really. I do believe their prime was well before American Idiot, so their two albums I’ll recommend is Dookie and Nimrod.
I’m not a fan of theirs, but they are Punk / Emo, and it’s a shocking death, even more so because of his age, which I think gets me really.
Today is probably the worst day ever. Its with our deepest regrets that we have to write this. Casey Calvert passed away in his sleep last night. We found out this afternoon before sound-check. We’ve spent the entire day trying to come to grips with this and figure out as much as possible. At this time we’re not sure what exactly happened. Just last night he was joking around with everyone before he went to bed. We can say with absolute certainty that he was not doing anything illegal. Please, out of respect to Casey and his family, don’t contribute or succumb to any gossip you may hear. We don’t want his memory to be tainted in the least. Casey was our best friend. He was quirky and awesome and there will truly be no others like him! His loss is unexplainable. As soon as we know more we will let you know.
WASHINGTON - Authorities are trying to figure out why a guitarist from a popular band died Saturday. It happened just hours before the band Hawthorne Heights was set to perform at D.C.’s 9:30 Club on Saturday night.
Band members said Casey Calvert, 26, apparently died in his sleep. They said they realized what happened just before a sound check Saturday afternoon.
It was unclear exactly where Calvert was found.
Band members said in a statement on the band’s official Web site that Calvert didn’t show any signs of trouble the day before.
“Just last night he was joking around with everyone before he went to bed,” they wrote Saturday.
The band also said Calvert was not “doing anything illegal” before his death.
“Please, out of respect to Casey and his family, don’t contribute or succumb to any gossip you may hear. We don’t want his memory to be tainted in the least. Casey was our best friend. He was quirky and awesome and there will truly be no others like him! His loss is unexplainable,” the release went on to say.
Hawthorne Heights recently soared to No. 3 on the Billboard charts with their album, “If Only You Were Lonely.”
Ah, a last minute change from what I was gonna do for two reasons. One; I was supposed to see the other guys today but more important things came up. Two; this one is punk! So fuck yeah, and, huzzah for anarchy with all that fun stuff in all…
Bad Religion - American Jesus
Bad Religion are pretty much going to the musical end scale that the Rolling Stones are at… they are all really old now!Formed in 1980 by Greg Graffin (vocals, keyboards), Jay Bentley (bass guitar), Jay Ziskrout (drums), and Brett Gurewitz, also known as “Mr. Brett” (guitar) - Gurewitz is also the owner of one of the biggest Indie record labels, Epitaph Records - was formed as a social commentary about the ills of society. To quote Greg Graffin:
Faith in your partner, your fellow men, your friends, is very important, because without it there’s no mutual component to your relationship, and relationships are important. So faith plays an important role, but faith in people you don’t know, faith in religious or political leaders or even people on stages, people who are popular in the public eye, you shouldn’t have faith in those people. You should listen to what they have to say and use it.
I really like this song as it kind of sticks a middle finger up to the Bible Belt in America, and also to the whole culture America lives in. Also has relevences today as when it was first written, it was aimed towards George H Bush for his whole “Jesus fucking loves us” and now with George W “Dubuwa” Bush saying “Jesus want me to be my baby’s mamma!”
So yes, enjoy this one! But if you want to get an album by them, two choices Process of Belief and also Stranger than Fiction.
